First Post! And How YouTube & Initial D Reignited My Interest In Anime
Hi
everyone! Azzam here, and for some reason I’ve decided to start blogging again.
Yes, I blogged some time ago but then I stopped, probably because that
excitement of writing my first blog post gradually faded away over the next few
months.
Last
time I blogged, it was 2012. I looked back at my old writings and haha, it’s
pretty cringey (and edgy too). But surprisingly, I was impressed with some of
the stuff I wrote as well.
Now
you may say, “eh, you are going to stop blogging a few weeks after this post.
Just like what happened in the previous blog.”
That
may be true. I have the tendency to stop doing whatever I’ve started in the
past, such as working out, jogging, learning to cook etc etc. But who cares anyway?
While I still have the interest in writing a blog now, might as well manifest
that interest into a blog.
(Surprisingly,
skateboarding is the only thing that I still stick to, since 2009. TEN YEARS. I
may not be very good at it but I’m still proud of that hahaha)
Will
my current blog-writing interest fade away in the next few months? Knowing
myself, I would say ‘Yes’ with a 95 percent probability.
But
I’m still giving myself some optimism for the Azzamenulis blog, hence the 5
percent. Who knows if I can discipline myself to writing one post every week?
I
will also limit myself to just writing to the length of one page in Word to
keep my post short. Who reads anymore nowadays~
Plus,
writing is part of my job now so maybe that ‘writing side of my brain’ is
warmed enough to let me update this blog regularly. Unlike the math side of my
brain which needs some serious kickstart like a beat-up car.
Speaking
of cars, let’s get to the topic of today’s post.
My
daily commute to work now involves a 40-minute train ride, so I got a lot of free
time in the crowded train. To pass the time I would bring along my tablet for
me to watch some YouTube videos I downloaded during the previous days.
Like
every internet user, I like memes. This one time, I came across the Déjà vu meme, which is a bunch of videos
showing drifting cars and the pulsing Déjà
vu song playing in the background. The meme later included ‘drifting’
trolley carts, bicycles, airplanes, ships, basically anything that can slide sideways.
It’s pretty funny, here’s an example.
Soon enough, I found out that the Déjà vu song is a song used in the racing anime Initial D (ID). I’ve heard of ID but I’ve
never had the interest to watch it. A quick search on Google showed that the
first season only had 25 episodes, and I thought “eh, it’s a short anime,
unlike Naruto with hundreds of episodes, let’s watch it during my work commute.”

Five
seasons later and I’ve gotta say ID is my new favourite anime. I’ve never taken
much interest into cars before but now, whenever I see a Subaru Impreza or Honda
Integra on the road, a tiny part of me wishes to drive them haha.
That
aside, I’ve also begun to re-watch the anime series that I couldn’t finish when
I was a kid. So far, I’ve watched Death
Note, Digimon Adventure and now I’m on Cardcaptor
Sakura (I’ll write about these anime series in the future).
All
thanks to that 40-minute train ride to work. And I’ve gotta say it’s a pretty
good way to start my day and end my day too.
